Six things to check before you post a sign-up sheet.

A sign-up sheet has one job: a list people put their name on, that stays right. Where tools differ is whether the list sits where people already are, whether it closes itself, and what it costs in accounts, ads or a plan. Run any tool, Mela included, through this list.

The checklist, with Mela’s answers
What to checkIn Mela
Where it livesIs the sheet on the invitation people already opened, or a separate site they have to find?On the invitation and in the community
QuantitiesCan a dish or slot say how many it needs and close when covered?Yes — no double claims, no overwriting
AccountsDoes anyone need an account to put their name down?No — a link, a name and a mobile number
Ads and plansAre there ads on the sheet, or a paid plan for basic features? No ads, no plan
RemindersCan you nudge only the people who have not signed up?Yes, one tap
The seasonDoes the sheet become attendance and a paid record for a class or a season?Yes, for programs

Every answer in the Mela column is true of the product today. The questions apply to any tool, and to a shared spreadsheet.

When a dedicated sign-up tool still wins

Flexible time windows and shifts across many days, and years of habit. A big volunteer operation with shifts across weeks may still want one; Mela’s volunteer slots are per event and per community, not a shift scheduler.

Where Mela differs

The next one’s on you.

Free for organizers, members and guests. The iPhone app runs the community; every guest replies from a link.

Questions

Can people sign up without an account?

Yes. Open the link, tap the item, type a name and a mobile number.

Can I set how many people each slot needs?

Yes. Every dish or item has a quantity; it closes when reached.

Does it work for volunteer shifts?

Volunteer slots on the community’s Volunteer tab, and bring lists on events and programs. Time-window shifts across many days are not a focus.
